Brandon Jew is the James Beard-Award winning chef-owner behind Michelin-starred Mister Jiu’s, Moongate Lounge and co-founder of Mamahuhu in San Francisco. Born and raised in San Francisco, Brandon began his culinary journey at the University of Irvine before working in kitchens all over the world, from Bologna, Italy to Shanghai, China. Returning to the San Francisco Bay Area, Brandon spent years working in some of the city’s most acclaimed restaurants, including multi-James Beard Award-winning Zuni Café, MichelinMichelin-starred Quince, and more.In 2016, Brandon opened his first restaurant Mister Jiu’s, a contemporary Chinese American restaurant in San Francisco’s Chinatown that pays homage to his heritage. The restaurant quickly received numerous accolades, including a Michelin star and Bon Appetit Hot 10, and in 2022, Brandon received the James Beard Award for Best Chef: California in addition to the James Beard Award in the Restaurant and Professional category for his cookbook Mister Jiu’s in Chinatown. In 2019, he opened Moongate Lounge cocktail bar above Mister Jiu’s, and in 2020 he opened Mamahuhu with co-founders Anmao Sun and Ben Moore. The fast-casual Chinese-American restaurant quickly became known for celebrating what it means to be Chinese-American today, and has been featured in outlets like Food & Wine, Architectural Digest, The New York Times and The San Francisco Chronicle.
